If you’re dreaming of turquoise waters, unspoiled beaches, and a slice of island life that still feels truly local—Eleuthera, Bahamas needs to be on your radar.
Jay and I spent time exploring this long, windswept island, and it quickly became one of our favorite getaways. It’s not your typical resort-heavy destination. Eleuthera is quieter, more raw, and all the better for it. Here’s why we think it deserves a spot on your travel list.

1. Beaches That Feel Like a Secret
Eleuthera isn’t short on jaw-dropping beaches—and many of them are blissfully empty. From the calm, family-friendly waters of Ten Bay Beach to the dramatic, pink sands of French Leave Beach, you’ll find a mix of secluded coves, expansive stretches, and cliffside viewpoints.
Our tip? Pick up “The Beach Book” before your trip. It’s a game changer and helped us discover local favorites we might have otherwise missed.
2. Unspoiled and Underrated
While places like Nassau and Exuma get most of the attention, Eleuthera is still flying under the radar. There are no big cruise ports or mega resorts here, just boutique hotels, vacation rentals, and local guesthouses. It feels authentic, peaceful, and wonderfully slow-paced.

3. Queen’s Bath & Natural Wonders
One of our favorite experiences was visiting Queen’s Bath, a series of natural rock pools along the Atlantic coast. Getting there involves a short, rocky walk—sturdy shoes recommended!—but the payoff is worth it. At low tide, you can wade into the pools and soak in ocean-fed water with a front-row seat to crashing waves.

4. It’s Not Just the Views—It’s the Vibe
Island hospitality runs deep here. People wave when they pass, stop to chat, and offer directions without hesitation. It feels like a place where time slows down and conversations matter. Whether you're buying fresh pineapple from a roadside stand or chatting with locals at a beach bar, Eleuthera has a warmth you can’t fake.

5. ELEUTHERA Travel Tips to Know
Getting There: You can fly into North Eleuthera (ELH), Governor’s Harbour (GHB), or Rock Sound (RSD). We flew into ELH—tiniest airport we ever landed at!
Car Rental: A total must. The island is 100+ miles long and taxis add up quickly.
Water Shoes: Some beaches and rocky shores are best explored with grip. We like water socks from Amazon.
Groceries & Dining: Stock up in Governor’s Harbour or North Eleuthera if you're cooking on your trip. Smaller towns have smaller stores and restaurants can be pricey!
Final Thoughts
Eleuthera isn’t flashy—and that’s its magic. It’s a place for sunrises over the Atlantic, beachcombing with no one else around, and reconnecting with nature (and yourself). If you’re looking for something off the beaten path but rich in beauty and soul, Eleuthera just might be your next favorite island.
